We live in a rural area of Missouri where some favorite past times in this area might include riding four wheelers, target shooting, hunting or fishing.
This past summer my husband and I decided to load up the kids, the poles, some soda and head for the lake to try our luck! Sounds like a fun summer day, right?! Well little did we know that this particular fishing trip would turn out to be one of the funniest ones we've taken!
My son (Austin) had just turned 4 a couple months before said trip, so needless to say he didn't really have much experience with the whole fishing "thing". At first he thought the idea of putting wiggly worms on a hook and tossing them in with his awesome Lightning McQueen pole sounded like great fun. Then I (literally) opened the can of worms!!! He was not liking that idea very much anymore and refused to touch the worms or to bait his hook. His big sisters by the way already had their hooks baited and in the water!
So, I bait his hook, help him cast in and go about setting my own pole up. Well what do you know? Austin has a bite, Alright! So, he jerks the pole and starts reeling as hard as he could and after a few seconds of this he catches a glimpse of the fish and gets super excited because He Caught A Fish Mommy!!!! So he jerks the pole again. He has maybe a foot and a half of line still out on his pole, the fish lands at his feet.
He freaks!!!
He takes off running towards the road (don't worry there was no traffic.) trying to get away from this fish. (He didn't make it very far, his Dad caught him before he made it to the road.) And he's watching back over his shoulder to see if the fish is following him; it was! You see he forgot to drop the pole when he took off running so the fish was right behind him the whole way!
We have managed to get him to go back fishing but he still refuses to touch the fish or the worms!
