Several major food distributors are recalling peanut butter products due to salmonella poisoning that may be linked to the deaths of 6 people! The company at the center of the peanut butter recall case, Peanut Corporation of America, had said that it had been informed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that some samples of its products had tested positive for a salmonella strain that may have originated in a Blakely, Georgia, peanut processing plant. The recall came amid a salmonella outbreak that as of Monday had killed at least six people and sickened more than 470 others in 43 states, according to an Associated Press story. At least 90 people have been hospitalized. Hershey and Con Agra have not affected by this recall and niether have Girl Scout cookies.
Here are some of the products being recalled:
•General Mills, which also makes Cheerios cereal and Yoplait yogurt, said the products recalled were Larabar Peanut Butter Cookie flavor snack bars and JamFrakas Peanut Butter Blisscrisp flavor snack bars.
•Austin, Keebler and Lofthouse peanut-butter cookies.
•The Kellog product was identified as Austin Quality Foods Toasty Crackers with Peanut Butter. Kellog products recalled last week include Keebler Soft Batch Homestyle Peanut Butter Cookies, Famous Amos Peanut Butter Cookies and Keebler Cheese & Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers.
•Midwestern grocer and retailer Meijer Inc. said it was recalling crackers and ice cream: Meijer-brand Cheese and Peanut Butter and Toasty Peanut Butter sandwich crackers, and Peanut Butter and Jelly and Peanut Butter Cup ice cream, according to the FDA.
•Little Debbie Peanut Butter Toasty and Peanut Butter Cheese Sandwich
That is all the products I could find but if you're still not sure try googling peanut butter recalls!
